It's late, and we're not done for the day. My estimate is another three hours or so. That'll make it 2:30 in the morning. Not bad, considering this means the team will get the weekend off. Finish tomorrow in the early afternoon, head to the airport, be home by seven or so. And be done until Tuesday. The relief is almost palpable around here. Everyone's already in Long-Holiday-Mood. That's something I really like about consulting: the sense of accomplishment after a long hard week, with a break ahead (even if it's just three days). You feel that you've actually achieved something, that you've earned your paycheck.
On that note, see you next week. The only vehicle I'll be using for the next few days is my bike - no airplanes, no taxis, no rental cars. Can't wait!

Business Class at least I hope? Or have they cut that out too now?
I certainly would not want to fly regularly backwards and forwards to the USA in Tourist Class, with all the additional, unbearable and infantile hassle at airports now, and the difficulty (because in reality there is no special relationship any more) of being treated like a criminal now if you want to enter the USA on an EU passport. What I don't understand is why the EU does not reciprocate and make it equally difficult for Yanks to enter and work in the EU !!! The Yanks expect it all their way; but when the Dollar falls somewhat more which it will things might get a bit different?
Yup, business class. Not that it matters with regard to the shoe-removal and confiscation-of-water-bottle routine. You do get a few more airmiles out of it though!
One does think one's being treated really badly by the US immigration authorities, but when I talk to American friends who work in Europe they tell me they are not being treated like royalty either. I think what one has to endure might simply be the nastiness of bureaucracy quite generally?
Hold on "a few more air miles out of it"? What to have to suffer even more of being treated as a suspect terrorist, having your water bottle confiscated and shoes taken apart, your luggage dissected as suspected bomb, your manicure set confiscated etc.? You must be a masochist?
